Launching Ceremony of the Hong Kong Laureate Forum (with photos)

The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam attended the launching ceremony of the Hong Kong Laureate Forum at Government House on 14 May 2019. The Forum aspires to be a world-class academic exchange event to connect the current and next generations of scientific leaders, and to promote understanding and interests among the young generation in Hong Kong and around the world in science and technology. The inaugural Forum will be held in November 2021 in Hong Kong by the Council of the Hong Kong Laureate Forum, with the full support of the HKSAR Government. PICO is a supporting organisation of the Forum.

During the launching ceremony, Mrs Lam witnessed the signing of two documents, including a sponsorship agreement between the Council and its principal sponsor Lee Shau Kee Foundation, and a memorandum of understanding between the Council and the Shaw Prize Foundation. In addition, four Shaw laureates, namely Professor Steven A Balbus (Astronomy 2013), Professor John F Hawley (Astronomy 2013), Professor E Peter Greenberg (Life Science and Medicine 2015) and Professor Simon D M White (Astronomy 2017) attended the ceremony to pledge their personal support, as well as sharing their scientific experience and insights at a panel discussion.
