1. Organising a briefing session for new members of the Chief Executive’s Policy Unit (CEPU) Expert Group

On 28 May, the CEPU reappointed 54 members of the CEPU Expert Group and appointed five new Expert Group members, and a briefing session was organised for the new members on 7 June. Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, briefed the members on the organisation and key functions of the CEPU, and shared the Expert Group’s accomplishments in the past year. Dr Wong exchanged views with the new members, who also gave their comments on the CEPU.

2. Meeting with the International Union of Marine Insurance

Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, met with Mr Frédéric Denèfle, President of the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) and Mr Lars Lange, Secretary-General of the IUMI, to discuss the latest development of the global marine insurance industry.

3. Meeting with the German Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong (GCC)

Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, together with two deputy heads, namely Ms Hinny Lam and Mr Nicholas Kwan, met with Mr Johannes Hack, President of the GCC, Mr Hannes Farlock, Delegate and Chief Representative of the German Industry and Commerce Ltd. (GIC), and Mr Hendrik Hillebrecht, Director, Business Development and Innovation of the GIC, to discuss the development of vocational and professional education and training as well as talent training in Hong Kong.

4. Visiting EHang Intelligent Technology Company Limited (EHang)

Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, and Dr Wang Chunxin, Deputy Head of the CEPU, visited EHang in Guangzhou, and met with Mr Xu Weidong, Vice President and Special Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer of EHang. Under the guided tour by Mr Xu Weidong and his team, Dr Wong and his delegation learned about the latest research and development (R&D) outcomes of EHang. Both sides also exchanged views on EHang’s electric vertical takeoff and landing technology and the development of low-altitude economy in Hong Kong.

5. Visiting the headquarters of XPENG AEROHT in Guangzhou

Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, and Dr Wang Chunxin, Deputy Head of the CEPU, visited the headquarters of XPENG AEROHT in Guangzhou and met with Mr Deng Weiqi, Deputy Director of Public Affairs, XPENG AEROHT, and his team to exchange views on the development of the company’s flying cars and the potential opportunities for flying cars in Hong Kong.

6. Meeting with the Drones Business Department of Meituan

Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, and Mr Nicholas Kwan, Deputy Head of the CEPU, met with Mr Yang Junwei, Person-In-Charge of Drones Operations, Meituan, and his team to learn about the experiences of the Meituan team in providing delivery service in the Mainland using drones and their visions for development.

7. Visiting the Cathay Cargo Terminal (CCT)

Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, visited the CCT and met with Mr Mark Watts, Chief Operating Officer of the CCT, Andy Wong, General Manager Corporate Affairs, Mr Frank Yau, Head of Cargo Sales Hong Kong, and their team to exchange views on the long-term strategic development of Cathay Pacific’s cargo business, and discuss how to enhance Hong Kong’s strengths in transshipment as well as strengthen ties with other cities in the Greater Bay Area.

8. Meeting with representatives of Cainiao in Hong Kong

Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, met with Mr Kammy Leung, Hong Kong General Manager of the Global Import Supply Chain Division, and Ms Chloe Deng, Director of Public Affairs - International Business of Cainiao Network, to exchange views on the long-term development of the logistics industry in Hong Kong.

9. Meeting with the Lok Ma Chau China-Hong Kong Freight Association (LMCCHKFA)

Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, met with Mr Stanley Chiang, Chairman of the LMCCHKFA, and Executive Committee members of the Association, and visited the brownfield sites in the New Territories together to learn more about the operation of the logistics industry.

10. Meeting with representatives of the Hong Kong Green Finance Association (HKGFA)

Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, and Ms Hinny Lam, Deputy Head of the CEPU, met with the members of the HKGFA, including representatives of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Arup, Hong Kong Shipowners Association and Stephenson Harwood LLP, to discuss how to enhance the competitiveness of Hong Kong as a green shipping hub in the supply of green maritime fuel.

11. Meeting with Chuan Chiong Co., Ltd, the agent of Beijing Tong Ren Tang

Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, met with Mr Kenlay Wong, Managing Director of Chuan Chiong Co., Ltd, the agent of Beijing Tong Ren Tang, to discuss and exchange views on the development of Chinese medicine trade in Hong Kong.

12. Meeting with PuraPharm

Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, met with Mr Abraham Chan, Founder and Chairman of PuraPharm, and Ms Hao Wangjun, General Manager of the Health Industry Department of PuraPharm, to discuss the development opportunities of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong.

13. Visiting the Taikang Community Yue Garden in Guangzhou

Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, and Dr Wang Chunxin, Deputy Head of the CEPU, visited the Taikang Community Yue Garden, an elderly care community in Guangzhou. They were given a tour by Mr Sun Jiajun, General Manager of the Taikang Community Yue Garden, Mr Hu Xiao, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) designate of the Taikang Life (Hong Kong) Preparatory Office, and Mr and Mrs Yung, residents of the community from Hong Kong, to learn about the operation and characteristics of the community. They discussed the opportunities and challenges of promoting high-end cross-boundary elderly care in Hong Kong and related insurance products under the direction of developing silver economy.

14. Visiting the Yi Nian Cheng elderly care exhibition gallery of Ping An Group

Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, and Dr Wang Chunxin, Deputy Head of the CEPU, visited Ping An Group in Shenzhen and toured the Yi Nian Cheng elderly care exhibition gallery run by the Group. They met with Ms Fu Xin, Senior Vice President of Ping An Group, Mr Yang Zheng, Chairman of Ping An Life, Ms Wang Yuke, General Manager of Elderly Care of Ping An Life, and their team to exchange views on the development of cross-boundary elderly care products.

15. Meeting with Mr Dane Cheng, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB)

Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, met with Mr Dane Cheng, Executive Director of the HKTB, to exchange views on the latest development of the tourism industry in Hong Kong.

16. Visiting the Hong Kong Industrial Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Centre (FLAIR)

Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, together with two deputy heads, Ms Hinny Lam and Mr Nicholas Kwan, met with Mr Edmond Lai, CEO of FLAIR cum Chief Digital Officer of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), and Mr Toni Drescher, CEO of the INC Innovation Center. They visited FLAIR and exchanged views on the InnoHK initiative, including the R&D on artificial intelligence and robotics.

17. Conducting exchanges with participants of the Financial Leaders Programme (FLP) 2024 organised by the Hong Kong Academy of Finance (AoF)

At the invitation of the AoF, Dr Stephen Wong, Head of the CEPU, conducted an exchange with participants of the FLP 2024, who came from sectors including banking, insurance, securities and asset management, professional services and financial technology. They exchanged views on different policy issues during the dialogue session.
